Bleeding in or around the brain can be incredibly dangerous. This is sometimes referred to as an intracranial hemorrhage.
There are a few different issues that this can cause. The first is that the brain relies on blood flow to get oxygen. So when a blood vessel ruptures and there is excessive bleeding in the brain, certain portions may go without the oxygen that they need, which can lead to cell death.
Additionally, bleeding puts pressure on the brain. For instance, there will sometimes be bleeding in the skull cavity, between the brain and the inner wall of the skull. If this is not addressed, the pressure continues to build and can lead to severe symptoms.
Taking every TBI seriously
One risk that people sometimes run is not getting the medical treatment they need because they do not think the injury is serious. For instance, someone may be involved in a car accident, and they hit their head and end up with a slight headache after the crash. But they think they just have a concussion, so they go home to get some rest.
If they actually had an intracranial hemorrhage, though, this means they do not get medical intervention. Pressure and oxygen loss continue to be issues, and their symptoms can grow far more severe. Some people even pass away from these TBIs.
Naturally, getting the medical treatment that is necessary for a head injury can be very expensive. That is why it is so important for injured parties to know how to seek financial compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and other damages.
